It isn't said that the city was destroyed, only that the explosions "consumed the Dark contingent" there. I think that Dispersal Dream that Alric was about to cast as "The Last Battle" ended, dispersing across half a million troops, would count as a "huge explosion", consuming the Dark contingent at Rhi'anon. Then Alric walked back to the World Knot and beamed back over to Madrigal or wherever.
