In Response To: Re: READ THIS, NOT BELOW (I hit "POST" b (Charon)

: How do you know Alric spent no resources on finding the
: Eblis Stone? I'd strongly disagree...and it makes
: perfect sense that the narrator wouldn't document any
: such effort. Alric doesn't want Balor to know about
: his search. The last thing he'd do is spread the word,
: so the narrator probably doesn't know. (His ignorance
: of the Eblis Stone is clearly spelled out in the
: pre-game to "River of Blood," I believe,
: when he mentions the mysterious arrival of an small
: object for Alric, carried by a Berserk from
: Willow--the narrator has no idea what it is).

My point was that Connacht had no enemies left to vanquish, ALL of his resources and himself were put towards finding the articfacts. Alric has a large war to fight with the Leveller and six Fallen Lords, so therefore he cannot send his army out looking for the stone. It's much, much more difficult this time around.

: Alric could very well have been spending the past year
: ferreting out the stone. Hell,he might have spent the
: entire duration of the war--all 15 years.
: Plus you're not addressing my other ideas on how the
: stone might have been found. Still no convincing
: reason the Deceiver had to tell him.

But, no evidence of how he found the stone is presented either way, so I'm just bringing up one possible theory.

: I was under the impression that you thought that the
: Deceiver did it in a way that would make it seem to
: Alric like the Deceiver was "accidentally"
: letting something slip. Frankly, I can't even begin to
: imagine how the Deceiver could
: "accidentally" slip the location of an Eblis
: Stone and/or the weakness of the Watcher to Alric in a
: way that would appear to Alric to be a plausible
: slip-up. If you can come up with even one idea, let me
: know.

Well, the circumstances in which alric learned of the Watcher's weakness and the Eblis stone is unknown.

: Not denying your permission, but there's only one truth
: out there, i.e., only one of us is right. Honestly, I
: still think that it's a "common thing" as
: you put it--that was my impression when I first played
: Myth I, I didn't come up with the idea upon arguing in
: this thread. Also plausible is the idea that Alric
: read about it in the Codex or was told by the Head.
: Most likely it was the Head that told him--clearly,
: Alric wouldn't go looking for the arm just because the
: Head told him to do so. The Head would have to give
: him a good reason--i.e., it's the Watcher's weakness.
: Any of these ideas is clearly more plausible than the
: idea that the Deceiver told Alric of the Watcher's
: weakness as part of "slipped info" or a deal
: with Alric.

No, the Codex is out of the question. Do you understand the nature of the Total Codex? You can't just open it up and find out where a bunch of things are and how to find them. It's completey random...

"No one can turn to a specific fate upon opening it, though the great archmage Mazzarin could usually turn to a page near his own fate." - GURPS

The Codex is not a book with a table of contents, its impossible to locate the exact thing you are looking for or wondering about.

And, Mazzarin is dead so there's no hope that he could have helped Alric/ That is, if he could have, which is extremely doubtful.

As for your "slipped info", let's can it. The Deceiver could have made the Legion aware of its location somehow, though *nothing* is documented about its location or the circumstances under which the Eblis stone was found. So, any theory is welcome because so far nobody has come up with a proven theory.
