: We have to remember that Connacht launched a campaign to
: search out the artifacts and destroy them. Resources
: and soldiers were most likely used. Alric has done no
: such thing.
How do you know Alric spent no resources on finding the Eblis Stone? I'd strongly disagree...and it makes perfect sense that the narrator wouldn't document any such effort. Alric doesn't want Balor to know about his search. The last thing he'd do is spread the word, so the narrator probably doesn't know. (His ignorance of the Eblis Stone is clearly spelled out in the pre-game to "River of Blood," I believe, when he mentions the mysterious arrival of an small object for Alric, carried by a Berserk from Willow--the narrator has no idea what it is).
: I was drawing a parallel, I'm sure you're familiar with
: the concept. To show you how difficult it is to find
: things, I stated that it took the Deceiver over a year
: to narrow down the location of the Watcher's arm
: (though he lost it) even though the Deceiver was the
: one who imprisoned the Watcher. I was trying to show
: how hard it is to find things in the Myth world.
Alric could very well have been spending the past year ferreting out the stone. Hell,he might have spent the entire duration of the war--all 15 years.
Plus you're not addressing my other ideas on how the stone might have been found. Still no convincing reason the Deceiver had to tell him.
: Huh? There is no way to tell how the Deceiver could have
: told Alric where the Eblis stone was or how to use the
: Watcher's arm against him.
I was under the impression that you thought that the Deceiver did it in a way that would make it seem to Alric like the Deceiver was "accidentally" letting something slip. Frankly, I can't even begin to imagine how the Deceiver could "accidentally" slip the location of an Eblis Stone and/or the weakness of the Watcher to Alric in a way that would appear to Alric to be a plausible slip-up. If you can come up with even one idea, let me know.
:(By the way, enough arguing
: about who gave the Alric the info of the arm...
: the Head told the Legion where to look for it). I am
: allowed to postulate a theory, I do believe. You can
: neither disprove it or provide your own sound theory
: so I don't see why you would bother arguing. We just
: don't have enough information to say one way or the
: other.
Sure, I'll buy (meaning I'll buy that it's POSSIBLE, not likely) that if you can come up with even one plausible (emphasis on plausible) scenario for how the Deceiver communicated this info to Alric without Alric realizing that the Deceiver WANTED him to have this info.
: And again, if you can tell me how the Legion knew of the
: Watcher's weakness (and don't tell me it could have
: been a common thing among sorcerers because that is
: based on nothing), the location of the Eblis stone and
: how Alric was rescued so easily, then I'll give up my
: theory. But, you can't so I'm permitted to think what
: I want.
Not denying your permission, but there's only one truth out there, i.e., only one of us is right. Honestly, I still think that it's a "common thing" as you put it--that was my impression when I first played Myth I, I didn't come up with the idea upon arguing in this thread. Also plausible is the idea that Alric read about it in the Codex or was told by the Head. Most likely it was the Head that told him--clearly, Alric wouldn't go looking for the arm just because the Head told him to do so. The Head would have to give him a good reason--i.e., it's the Watcher's weakness. Any of these ideas is clearly more plausible than the idea that the Deceiver told Alric of the Watcher's weakness as part of "slipped info" or a deal with Alric.
Concerning the location of the Eblis Stone, I came up with several ideas besides the one that you answered in my previous post on this string. If you want to take the time to answer each one I've come up with, fine, but I won't restate them, and they're sitting there unanswered.
As for Alric, I address this in the other string.
