It's said that some Legion soldiers found the Deceiver in the Stair of Grief and attacked him, plunged Myrdred into the river, his sceptar fell to the bottom and the D was swept far downstream.

Obviously, the Deceiver (according to the journal entry) escaped the Watcher's fury and fled north, only later to be defeated at the hands of the Legion.

Interesting, but GURPS says differently. The book said that after the Watcher got rid of the Deceiver's treachery, he chose not to look for Myrdred's *corpse*, but instead he decided to tag after Alric.
