Well maybe their wasn't a World Knot at the Stair of Grief, but Alric seems quite capable of teleporting small numbers of troops (including himself) around without World Knots. He manages to get the Five Champions and himself out after escaping his confinement and defeating Sinis without using a World Knot. It is very likely that he could teleport to confer with the parties leader every couple of days. Sure he might not have known there exact location, but it wouldn't be that hard to figure out.
