In Response To: Even more... (Chris t' Crappy)

: "...but this proved his temporary undoing when the
: Deceiver overreached himself in confronting the
: Watcher's army with his own. The Deceiver nearly died
: in fleeing that fight -- perhaps did die -- but was
: revived at Alric's command." - 'The Deceiver'
: GURPS

: "In his flight, the Deceiver attempted to cross the
: Stair of Grief but was attacked by Light forces.
: (around the time the Tain shattered)" - 'T &
: D' GURPS

These two quotes together directly contradict what the games tell us. The second quote goes against the journal entry in Myth I (I believe it is for Sons of Myrgard) which relates that the Deceiver _crossed_ at the Stair of Grief. He didn't just attempt to cross, he didn't start crossing and then was beaten back, or the journal writer would surely have mentioned it. He actually made it across the mountains.

The first quote somehow assumes that the Deceiver's demise at the end of the Great War was ultimately related to his fight with the Watcher. Myth II directly contradicts that with the journal entries from the quotes I gave previously--of course, it does directly contradict _itself_ by saying that the Deceiver "disappeared" after Seven Gates, implying that nobody saw him again.

What I'm beginning to think it boiled down to was multiple writers working on GURPS Myth who didn't get their facts straight, neither between each other nor through close enough analysis of the game. The reasons for the contradictions in Myth II, however, are anyone's guess. If I had to guess, I'd have to say sloppy writing (given that Myth II was a rush job) was probably the number one cause.
