In Response To: The Truth About the Cycles (Forrest)

: Really? I don't see any timeline. :-)
__
>_ It's in a different thread, beneath this one...

: I feel like doing this myself, so here goes...

: First Era, the Axe Age. An unnamed man, the Leveller, who
: once was a Great Hero, whose spirit would later be
: that of Connacht, appears in the east. An unnamed man,
: the Great Hero, whose spirit would later be that of
: Alric, is born in the west. The two clash, and the
: Leveller wins. A comet appears in the east to herald
: his victory. A thousand years of darkness ensue, some
: time during which the Leveller dies.

: Second Era, the Age of Reason. An unnamed man, the
: Leveller, whose spirit would later be that of
: Connacht, is born in the west. Tireces, the Great
: Hero, whose spirit would later be that of Alric, is
: born in the east. The two clash, and Tireces wins. A
: comet appears in the west to herald his victory. A
: thousand years of light ensue, some time during which
: Tireces disappears.

: Third Era, the Wind Age. Moagim, the Leveller, who once
: was Tirces, whose spirit would later be that of Alric,
: appears in the east. An unnamed man, the Great Hero,
: whose spirit would later be that of Connacht, is born
: in the west. The two clash, and Moagim wins. A comet
: appears in the east to herald his victory. A thousand
: years of darkness ensue, some time during which Moagim
: dies.

: Fourth Era, the Wolf Age or Age of Light. An unnamed man,
: the Leveller, whose spirit would later be that of
: Alric, is born in the west. Connacht, the Great Hero,
: whose spirit is that of Connacht (duh), is born in the
: east. The two clash, and Connacht wins. A comet
: appears in the west to herald his victory. A thousand
: years of light ensue, some time during which Connacht
: disappears.

: Fifth Era, the Sword Age (as is SHOULD be, though the
: cycle's broken so it isn't). Balor, the Leveller, who
: once was Connacht, whose spirit is that of Connacht
: (duh), appears in the east. Alric, the Great Hero,
: whose spirit is that of Alric (duh), is born in the
: west. The two clash, and Balor wins. A comet appears
: in the east to herald his victory. A thousand years of
: darkness ensue, some time during which Balor dies.

: Or, in table form...

: 1, Axe Age
: Unnamed (Leveller Connacht) reappears in east.
: Unnamed (Hero Alric) born in west.
: Comet from east.
: Leveller wins - dark age.
: Leveller dies, Hero dies.

: 2, Age of Reason
: Unnamed (Leveller Connacht) born in west.
: Tireces (Hero Alric) born in east.
: Comet from west.
: Tireces wins - light age.
: Leveller dies, Hero disappears.

: 3, Wind Age
: Moagim (Leveller Alric) reappears in east.
: Unnamed (Hero Connacht) born in west.
: Comet from east.
: Moagim wins - dark age.
: Leveller dies, Hero dies.

: 4, Wolf Age / Age of Light
: Unnamed (Leveller Alric) born in west.
: Connacht (Hero Connacht) born in east.
: Comet from west.
: Connacht wins - light age.
: Leveller dies, Hero disappears.

: 5, Sword Age (as it should be)
: Balor (Leveller Connacht) reappears in east.
: Alric (Hero Alric) born in west.
: Comet from east.
: Balor wins - dark age.
: Leveller dies, Hero dies.

: As you can see, the fifth era is screwed up, as how it
: SHOULD be doesn't match how it is. Thus, the cycle is
: broken.

That's really pretty close to right Forrest :). The problem is, there is no conclusive proof that there is one divine spirit which seems to inhibit the Great Hero of the age. Also, there is vague speculation that Alric may be the real leveller in GURPS:Myth. I've seen some of the threads that say that there may have been two clashing spirits throughout the cycles, but as far as we know, the only true being which inhibits a person is that of the Leveller. The Great Hero may just be a really buff guy who can manage to take out the leveller, and the battles are always destined to go one way or the other anyways, so the Light would have a significant advantage over the dark, and vice versa.

At least, that's how it's SUPPOSED to happen...damn Connacht broke the cycle.
