: Okay, okay. I don't have Myth 2, so I'm getting all my
: knowledge from the journal entries, bungie's site of
: characters and reading posts.
: All Nine are Avataras on top of being a berserk or
: whatever. The guy who represents the Avataras (that
: are not the Nine) is Alric.
But the Avataras aren't really a race; Alric's family, for instance, never seemed to demonstrate any magical talent. And they aren't a community either; the Avatara who became Shades did so voluntarily (like Turquine) and were apparently rulers of their own little kingdoms and, obviously, didn't share the beliefs of the Nine. The avatara, like Forrest says, are simply the most powerful sorcerers, and by and large powerful sorcerers aren't very interested in being represented by anyone other than themselves. I don't think there would be any subordinate Avatara for Alric to command; all the Avatara in the west were automatically part of the ruling body, the Nine, by virtue of their power and wisdom. Can't prove this, of course, but I think if there were other Avatara we'd hear about them.
: Wait, aren't there myrmidon sorcerors, like some of the
: Fallen? So why can't there be berserk sorcerors?
Well, there are. The myrmidons are berserks, so Myrmidon sorcerers (like perhaps Shiver) are berserk sorcerers. There aren't any *Light* berserk sorcerers because, as Forrest points out, the dark path is easier for those who aren't very intellectual; just cut off bits of your body or sell your soul instead of spending a few decades studying.
: I think that all humans would flock to Alric as the
: savior and all that after the Great War and he would
: immediately become king of all humans, whether or not
: he wanted to.
: And Alric is not nessecarily the only Avatara left. He's
: the only one of the Nine left.
Yeah, it's not hard to see why Alric became king after. I was just wondering about before.
: First off, the Nine are tacticians. See the myth manual.
: Therefore, they are a council, trying to determine how
: to use what they have. It's in their best interest to
: have someone who knows what each persona can do. Hence
: one person per unit type. And these people have to be
: generals and generals are probably, in the myth world,
: the best fighters and magic users.
I don't think this has *ever* been true since the Palaeolithic. The best generals are the smartest and shrewdest ones, regardless of how they are at personal combat. And it still doesn't explain why there are two types of bowmen, or two phases of the Heron Guards.
: Alric was the leader of the Nine. It says so under the
: listing for The Nine in the Myth glossary. And he
: probably had that possition because he was the Avatara
: leader and because he was a king.
Does it say Alric was the leader? Strange, but I can't argue with the glossary.
: We don't see many wizards in Myth because they aren't
: part of the Legion. And I bet a lot of them died
: during the first 14 years of the war. There aren't
: many wizards in myth 2 because first, you have to wait
: for a whole new generation of people. Then you have to
: train them. And what, is Alric going to be able
: individually train thousands of potential wizard?
Well, it's been sixty years. I figured he could train at least a few of them, and if he did they'd certainly be turned out to fight Soulblighter.
: Maybe Rabbican was the only member of the Nine who was
: defending Madrigal at the time.
Madrigal, the capital of the West and the focus of the war? Unlikely. Almost all of the Nine were almost always there (along with The Head) almost all the time, I think.
: And The Nine like wearing masks because they are really
: ugly. Did you see Balor's head? He is ugly too.
No way! Alric's a babe! I've got the "Playboy" where Alric takes it all off and, believe me, it's something.
