When Soulblighter was going to break the dam, killing both Alric and Shiver, the Deceiver insisted it be protected, threatening to punish all who didn't help. Since it's unlikely he was trying to save Shiver to kill her himself later, as he had no problem letting others kill SB, he must have been protecting Alric.
