: In "The Five Champions", there are uncountable
: different paths you could take to win or lose the
: level, but it comes down to two possiblilties. If the
: heros succeed in the mission, Alric escapes. That is
: how the story goes in all the timelines following the
: successfull completion of that level. However, by the
: end-game art, we can see what would happen had the
: heroes failed - Alric would have DIED. That means that
: the Deceiver would have let him die had the heroes
: failed. We don't know much about how the timeline
: would have progressed after that, but suffice it to
: say the Light probably would have lost the war.

Here's my gripe with this. You can't say "Oh, if you lose, you get to see what happens if you fail." You just can't because the game of Myth is simply retelling the story to you. The story stands linear, and you can't go back and replay a level a different way to see the alternate outcome. While I know you guys don't like this, I think the Game-Lost screen for "The Five Champions" really doesn't tell us anything about Alric's fate. It was put in there for the game purposes. If you fail on the level you see the person you're trying to save, dead. Their assuming that if you were to lose, Alric would die. Truth is, nobody knows what would happen if the heroes fail, so the lost screen is simply speculation. Also just motivation.

If you lose, they're not going to throw an entire cutscene in there showing what happens, they try to keep the game still a game. I know nobody likes this, but oh well. Also, we've talked about this before, many things in the game Myth don't reflect more modern (yes, only by a year, but I call that modern ;) facts about the world and the events that took place.

Plus, and this is what I think could have happened in this alternate Universe, its a possibility that Balor was on his way to the Deceiver's camp to see Alric, perhaps even remove him or question him. But, when he learned of the five men coming to rescue him and their failure, he immediately killed Alric as he arrived in the area to ensure Alric wouldn't be able to escape and rejoin his forces. After all, if you can't keep the guy, you might as well kill him. I think Balor arrives just as the Champions failed, if they were to fail.

How do you explain the fact that both Balor and the Deceiver were around, but when you get to the containment field, *no one* is there, only a few souless? Seems to me that if I were Balor I'd be guarding him myself, or I'd have somebody or some large army surrounding him. Alric is kind of just sitting there in the desert all by himself. Balor is smart, and I'd think he'd remove him from the area or at the least take his sword. Come on, when do people imprison their enemies with their weapon? It all seems very odd.
