Point of clarification: It was revealed in Myth II that the Fallen *Lords* had their own power sources independent of Balor, but we don't know that the same was true for the rank-and-file Fallen. It's very very unlikely that the undead masses (except for a very few bound personally to each Fallen Lord) survived Balor's doom. Otherwise, how would Alric, the last remaining Avatara, and the handful of still living troops scattered across the Province manage to take down the entire Dark army after Balor fell? They'd be in the same position as the Light was when Moagim first appeared, and 2,000 years before that: of having killed the Leveller but succumbing anyway to the massive armies of the Dark. Balor's binding the great masses of Thrall and Soulless to himself was really the crucial act which made this cycle different--when he died, the Dark army collapsed with him.
