: Have read it; made me feel ashamed. Y'all have some good
: points. I concede defeat. There is, however, the
: question of why the Deceiver sides with Alric in M2.
: So far I haven't heard a decent answer to that. I
: still think he chooses the Light--he could have just
: taken the scepter from the zerk, said thank you, bound
: or cloudkilled the zerk and gone off with a personal
: army of Mauls to do Soulblighter's work--or his (D's)
: own, for that matter. I know being released from
: bondage is a big deal in Myth--it's how Balor got the
: Trow on his side and so on--but the Deceiver is the
: kind of guy, even if he owes you something he's gonna
: do his own thing, yeah?
Here's my theory: Deceiver doesn't at any point in Myth II have any real loyalty to Alric. What he DOES want to do is eliminate Soulblighter and Shiver, who both stand as obstacles to any future power grab, especially if HE wants dominance over the armies of the Dark. So, he joins the Light in their darkest hour, since they are a useful ally. Now, by the time of the "Shiver" mission, Soulblighter is on the run. The D demands that he be the one to take out Shiver, then gets himself killed. Has his death ever seemed suspicious to you? While she's alive, she doesn't touch him, but as soon as he dies she gets the drop on him? How dumb is he? Wouldn't he know if she had some sort of spell protecting her? Couldn't he see it coming? Nothing conclusive, of course, I just always thought his death was kind of strange. My thoughts: he faked it. As soon as Shiver is dead, he knows Soulblighter is in big, big, trouble, and is doomed to die at the hands of Alric. Even if he steps out of the picture, Alric will win, there will be no one left to lead the armies of the Dark, and everyone thinks the D is dead. There won't be any more trouble for a thousand years, right? Unless the D is waiting to step out of the shadows and control the Dark...if you want my opinion, I'll bet he's the major villian in Myth III.
