Not responding to most, but I think you're right about the Myth: TFL intro. I've seen this raised before as part of a theory that the nine represent one of each unit. That theory was ridiculous, but yours makes sense.

Here's what GURPS has to say:
Alric: Best all-around embodiement of the avatara ideal.
Rabican: The best at martial skills.
Murgen: The best magically.
Maeldun: known for his stubborness.
Cu Roi: An ordinary avatara.
