In Response To: Re: Yet another evidenceless Shiver-Ravanna theory (Charon)

: First: Since when was Ravannah's name Culwyeh? What are
: you basing this on? Culwyeh is/was a necromancer, we
: can assume, since he "fathered" the wights,
: but there is no evidence that Ravannah is a
: necromancer herself.

Shiver's name is Culwyeh. Like Joy says, it's in GURPS. So while every other Fallen Lord has a given name (Damas, Myrdred, Bahl'al), and a 1- or 2-word title (Soulblighter, The Deceiver, The Watcher, The Faceless Man) in addition to their longer descriptions (Patron of the Hanged, Source of the 500 Poisons), if Shiver and Ravanna were the same person they'd have two "ordinary" names and two titles. Which would be unusual.

: Second: there is no reason to
: believe Ravannah had been killed prior to the Great
: War. All that is known is that Balor bound many Fallen
: Lords to his will and renamed them (who knows why:
: maybe ego, maybe to confuse the Light).

I was saying that Ravanna must have been killed *during* the Great War, before she appeared as Shiver. Being such a mysterious Fallen Lord, I don't think the Light would have heard of her until they met her face-to-face. So she must have been encountered by the Light during the war before the became Shiver. Oh, and GURPS says that Balor "revived Ravanna from eternal sleep," so we know she probably died at least once before TFL.

: In any case,
: we see this pattern many times, and the renaming has
: nothing to do with death. Connacht became Balor, Damas
: became Soulblighter, Myrdred became The Deceiver,
: Bahl'Al became The Watcher (that one is a bit
: speculative). My guess is that, considering that we
: know Balor, Soulblighter, and The Deceiver were all
: good in the previous age, Ravannah was originally also
: good, but turned to evil by Connacht/Balor before the
: Great War. She was killed by Rabican (nothing special
: there, just a weak Fallen Lord) and was resurrected by
: Soulblighter and forced to do his bidding.

You *really* need to get GURPS. Not trying to insult you, but it's pretty much indispensable to story arguments these days. Shiver is Culwyeh and she's been evil for a very long time. With reference to the naming thing: again, all the other Fallen Lords took titles, not new names. Soulblighter, The Deceiver and The Watcher are titles. Yes, Balor took a new name, but as the Leveller he doesn't obey the same rules that the lesser Lords do. None of the lesser lords, to our knowledge, ever took new names. So it would be weird if Shiver did.

Perhaps in
: the process of dying and being resurrected, she lost
: some of her power. I don't see any holes in this,
: which is completely supported by the given evidence.

I wouldn't be surprised if she lost some of her power. But she doesn't seem to be able to use even weakened versions of her old spells like the Whisper Dream. In the Myth world, spells are simply knowledge; since Shiver seemed to have retained her memories and personality after Soulblighter recovered her, why didn't she remember her spells?
