: "The Leveller ... a transient divinity seeking only
: destruction and chaos."
: Also see "Anti-society" in GURPS, page 9.
In that "Anti-society" section: "Some Dark lords, such as Balor, have seemed to desire an iron-fisted rule."
Nonetheless, I concede that the Leveller apparently always dies, even if he succeeds in ushering in a Dark Age. 'Cuz it says so.
: That part says that, by all records, he appeared right on
: time, while the comet was late. Then it goes on to say
: that all of that could be proof that the gods don't
: engage in clockwork timing, or it could be a
: malfunction of human record-keeping. I think the gods
: probably do keep perfect timing, and it's the human
: calendar that's screwed up. However, I trust celestial
: events to run on schedule more than I do humans, so
: I'm betting that it's the timing of Balor that was
: off, not the timing of the Comet.
If any of the theories given in that section are correct, I'd bet on the third one, simply because in a setting like this, the least popular and most-ridiculed theory is always right. But rather than saying Balor chose to arrive early so as not to become the Leveler, I think perhaps the comet "chose" to arrive late, perhaps so that it could possess Alric instead, knowing that he'd win the Great War.
