From the "Will you bow to anyone who claims the throne of the Cath Bruig?", I tend to think Myrdred was working for the not-yet-dead Emperor at this time. But if the battle with the Watcher happened just after the Great War ended (as I suppose it could have), Myrdred might have already accepted Connacht as the new Emperor like everyone else.
