In Response To: Re: Magic in Myth (SiliconDream =PN=)

: True. The Watcher, who failed to find the Dream,
: nevertheless created thousands of Thrall to overwhelm
: Mazzarin. However, I doubt that the people of Myth
: would even know that a Dream of Unlife existed unless
: *someone* had found it and tried it out, since there's
: no theoretical framework for calculating what each
: Dream does. And since Balor created the most massive
: armies of undead ever seen, as well as some types no
: other necromancer could make (like Myrmidons), he's
: the best candidate for having discovered the Dream.

: I think the actual names of the Dreams are just made up
: by the users. Less well-known dreams like the
: confinement and compulsion dreams have no
: "official" names like the Dispersal Dream
: does, and so the Deceiver might use the term
: "Binding Dream" to refer to his compulsion
: dream, while the GURPS-known archmages happen to use
: the same term to refer to the confinement dream. The
: confusion is exacerbated by the fact that, if GURPS is
: correct, the Deceiver has both dreams.

First, if the Deceiver has both dreams he must be THE most powerful living sorcerer at the time, there doesn't appear to be anyone as powerful as shiver, having several dreams.
Although the dreams may be named by their user, perhaps the Trow were the first to discover the Dream of Unlife (it was somewhere in their sunken city). Although there is no record of a Trow sorcerer using any spell like that, they may have discovered the rune and told people about it. So if it was only used a couple times, it could still be known to be the Dream of Unlife, even though the Dream has been forgotten for a helluva long time.
