: Myrdred was an avatara, perhaps he used it in the
: presence of Connacht who was the leader of the
: adventure/quest and got all the credit...
Apparently the Watcher's battle with Mazzarin happened during or before Connacht's war with the Myrkridia; probably the Deceiver imprisoned him soon afterwards. If Connacht was still fighting the Myrks at this time, the entire "minor" war between the Watcher and the Avatara might have gone unnoticed by most of the world until after the fact. When everyone eventually heard about the Watcher and his imprisonment, they naturally attributed it to Connacht, who was far flashier and more famous than the Deceiver.
: Just because the Dream of Unlife wasn't found doesn't
: mean you can't make undead units. Gurps plainly
: indicates that there is plentyof learned magic around,
: like Warlocks learn, including many necromatic spells.
: Many mages just decline to learn these dark arts, but
: Fallen Lords have no such qualms.
True. The Watcher, who failed to find the Dream, nevertheless created thousands of Thrall to overwhelm Mazzarin. However, I doubt that the people of Myth would even know that a Dream of Unlife existed unless *someone* had found it and tried it out, since there's no theoretical framework for calculating what each Dream does. And since Balor created the most massive armies of undead ever seen, as well as some types no other necromancer could make (like Myrmidons), he's the best candidate for having discovered the Dream.
: In the game it is called the Binding Dream though.
I think the actual names of the Dreams are just made up by the users. Less well-known dreams like the confinement and compulsion dreams have no "official" names like the Dispersal Dream does, and so the Deceiver might use the term "Binding Dream" to refer to his compulsion dream, while the GURPS-known archmages happen to use the same term to refer to the confinement dream. The confusion is exacerbated by the fact that, if GURPS is correct, the Deceiver has both dreams.
: Deciever isn't dead GURPS Myth drops several hints to
: this.
Sorry, I meant to say, "It's weird that they don't explain how he survived." :)
