In Response To: Re: Update, and Shiver stuff (Dan Rudolph)

Some stuff snipped:

: Oddly enough, this is not at all how GURPS describes the
: Whisper Dream. In fact, it says her Myth 2 incarnation
: didn't have it.

Myth 2 Shiver certainly didn't have the dream as described in the TFL comic or in GURPS. Although her attack was labeled the Whisper Dream in the tags, as you could see it simply fired those little guided explosive lights. I think they originally hoped to create a more impressive attack, true to the concept of the Whisper Dream, but for some reason decided to make it a more "ordinary" magical attack and didn't bother to change the name in the tags.

: What all have you found? I noticed it says the Deceiver
: may have used the confinement dream on the Watcher,
: when TFL says it was Connacht.

This may reflect a desire on the part of the Myth makers to introduce new material, rather than an error. The book makes a point of saying that it's not known who *really* imprisoned the Watcher. Probably, whenever a good deed was done anonymously, the people of the Cath Bruig would attribute it to Connacht.

: It says the dream of unlife was never discovered, when
: there are undead everywhere. Perhaps you can create
: undead without it, but that's not what the name
: implies.

It doesn't say that the dream of unlife was never discovered. It only says that the Watcher never found it. Just because it doesn't have its own paragraph doesn't mean it was never found; the Binding Dream, for instance, was found by the Deceiver, and the Darkness Dream (called "slow" in GURPS) is used by the Mahir, but neither has its own paragraph. I think that only the 38 unnamed dreams were never found--the others had to be found at least once to have been given a name in the first place!

: It says the binding and confinement dreams are the same
: thing.

I don't see this. Are you inferring it from the fact that the Deceiver is thought to possess the confinement dream? I think the binding dream is referred to separately as the "compulsion" dream. I imagine that the book says nothing about the Deceiver possessing the compulsion dream only because we already know he did from the game.

: It makes no mention of the Deceiver's death.

I'm sure this was approved by Bungie; they could hardly have overlooked such an important detail. It's weird that they don't explain *how* he died, though.

: It refers to Shiver's original form as both beautiful and
: bestial, though it appears to be neither.

They got the "gauzy" part right. Possibly we just don't have the right appreciation for the Tales of the Fallen Lords art.
