Well, i was just speculating at this point, the people of the Empire said that Connacht left his throne and was never known to have died. There may have been other people who held the position, but i was always under the impression that one must die before a successor can be named.
Then again, the people sitting on the throne may have been just keeping Connacht's seat warm until he came back.
