: However, GURPS tells us that Shiver's true name is
: Culwyeh (Wights were created by Shiver and called
: "Messengers of Culwyeh").
How do you people all pronounce "Culwyeh"? I find myself pronouncing it "KOOL-way", even though I think it should be pronounced "KOOL-wee-Eh". My speech synthesizer says "KUHL-uieh" (with "uieh" being an odd sort of three-vowel dipthong of "uu", "ee", and "eh").
: Soulbligter (Damas), Twice Bown
: The Watcher (Bahlíal), Mad Goat of the Fens
: Shiver (Culwyeh) Voiceless One (Ravanna)
: The Deceiver (Myrdred), Source of the 500 Poisons
: The Lurker (Bheil), Bonesplitter
: The Faceless Man (???), ???
I agree with this one. Thanks for the true name of Bheil. BTW, is it actually confirmed that Bahl'al is The Watcher?
: So, depending on what you may believe, there are as many
: as 3 different possibilities that i can see. Another
: note of interest, GURPS:Myth also states that Bahl'al
: reportedly never FOUND the Dream of Unlife: ---
: "As a necromancer first and foremost, he pursued the
: Unlife Dream with great vigor, but reportedly never
: found it"
: "...searching the ruined palaces and temples of the
: Trow for the runic dream of unlife"
: ---
: Basically, this doesn't make sense, unless Necromancers
: knew how to raise thrall without the Dream of
: Unlife...so what would the Dream of Unlife actually
: do?
Perhaps that can explain why it was "Balor's greatest secret", when The Watcher should have known about it - he didn't, only Balor did! Until Soulblighter found out about it. And now it seems to be out of the bag, as Kyrilla knew how to make Thrall (or maybe those were just illusions. Yeah, I think so).
Hey, maybe that's the thing with the weirdness of the cycles... like Moagim's early death and the subsequent ravaging of the Myrkridia, perhaps Balor's death has unleashed the Undead on us for a thousand years, and a myriad of minor evils which periodically pop up and screw with the forces of the Light.
Or maybe the cycle really has been broken - it would make sense, seeing as this is the Seventh Era. (We know of the Second, Third, and Fourth Leveller's deaths, plus Moagim and Balor, meaning the Sixth Era has just ended). Though recent GURPS info seems to have messed up that notion a bit.
I still don't have GURPS, so let me get try to get this straight in my head (using dates from the start of the First Era, since I don't know much about the AE calendar). Please correct me where I'm wrong:
0000 Cycles arise.
First Era begins.
Unknown Light Age begins.
0500 First Leveller arises.
Unknown Dark Age begins.
1000 First Great Hero arises, kills First Leveller.
Second Era begins.
Unknown Light Age begins.
1500 Second Leveller arises.
Unknown Dark Age begins.
2000 Second Great Hero arises, kills Second Leveller.
Third Era begins.
Unknown Light Age begins.
2500 Third Leveller arises.
Unknown Dark Age begins.
3000 Third Great Hero arises, kills Third Leveller.
Fourth Era begins.
Golden/Axe(?) Age (Light) begins.
3500 Fourth Leveller arises.
Golden/Axe(?) Age (Dark) begins.
4000 Tireces arises, kills Fourth Leveller.
Fifth Era begins.
Age Of Reason (Light) begins.
Now here things start to get screwy...
4500 Moagim arises.
Wind Age (Dark) begins.
Connacht arises, kills Moagim.
Myrkridia ravage the land.
5000 New Light Age scheduled to begin; doesn't happen.
Sixth Era begins.
Myrkridia continue to ravage the land.
5500 Connacht exterminates Myrkridia.
Wolf Age / Age of Light begins.
New Dark Age scheduled to begin; opposite happens.
6000 Balor arises.
Seventh Era begins.
Sword Age begins.
New Light Age scheduled to begin; opposite happens.
6500 Alric arises, kills Balor.
New Dark Age scheduled to begin; opposite happens.
6560 Soulblighter returns, ruins the new Light Age.
Soulblighter killed; new Light Age resumes.
So, all thanks to Connacht's killing Moagim 500 years early, the cycles are thoroughly screwed up now. Am I right, you lucky GURPS owners?
