Either way, happy to see another old face still lurking around here. :-)

You might have noticed that I recently soft-launched a redesign of the site, which is actually completing an aborted redesign from somewhere in the 2008-2012 era. I've finally made the parts of the site that were converted to that old design look okay (I hope) and also be responsive for smaller modern mobile screens, and I'm in the process of cleaning up the code on the back-end as much as possible (converting to valid polyglot HTML5 mostly), and adding a little bit of front-end pizazz (going to implement a hamburger menu for mobile, and drop-down menus, and maybe some collapsible/expandable sections).

Then I'll finish converting the rest of the site that never got converted to that design, like the Field Guides, the news archive, and maybe even porting most of the stuff from Misc into the "FanFiction" system for a new top-level link to replace the current "Miscellaneous" (which I'm still sorely tempted to call "Mythellaneouth"). And lastly, if I can get Claude's approval, I'd like to wrap the new theme around this ancient WebBBS we call a forum, too.

All of this as part of polishing up my portfolio to try to find new work before all of the pandemic unemployment support runs out, or before I run out of money even on the unemployment. My old employer all but folded back in April, cutting me in the process, and though I've applied to literally thousands of new jobs since then, they've all got hundreds of applicants each, so maybe 1% of them even bother to respond to me at all, and none of those have panned out.

So I first polished up my own website, and the site for my Marathon mod Eternal, and now I'm doing this site as well, and maybe one other old site I built for an old job that I'm going to offer to touch up unrequested and for free just to my portfolio looks nicer. All the while studying all the changes that have happened in web technology since I last did it professionally (I've been in an exclusively graphics job the past 8 years), including all the changes to HTML5 and CSS3, Bootstrap (what is this, training wheels for people who don't know CSS?), and next up, Node, React, then maybe Angular and Vue...

I hope everyone else who might be reading this is holding up okay in this nightmare of a year. Let me know if you have any feedback on the new site design, too.
