that is a very valid point. whenever i played the game, i always assumed that this was what happened. but i guess i never thought about it that way before. i always thought that it was sooner that in the cycle, because it wasn't truly a dark age yet. after all, people we still alive and fighting.
on another note, maybe soulblighter wasn't entirely mistaken when he thought he could and would win. he could have been counting on it still being a dark age, regardless of the leveller or not. that being said, his failures reassures us that alric actually did break the cycle.
