Mazzarin being taken over by the watcher, still existing now, and STILL IN LIVING MEMORY implies that the Watcher took Mazzarin 500 years ago, and since its still well known, I'd assume 500 years ago was during the same age... (The wind age and all that gets really confusing...) Thus the myth tfl age was 1000 years of darkness, but it got cut short at 500 years of darkness...
It has to be or else no one would care that alric won since he was 'supposed' to... cutting it 500 years short means he broke something.
