Are you sure it patched to the right folder?
If you did, you should have two different myth2.exe's, one that says Myth II old.exe (or Myth II really old.exe) and the new one which is Myth II.exe, which is the one you're supposed to use. You should try the Troubleshooting forums at either www.playmyth.net or www.projectmagma.net, there are more people reading those forums, and more people with the technical know-how. :P
The community's still around, centered mostly around playmyth, you just missed the most recent Myth World Cup but you can see results and films at www.mwc06.com.
