well, that would raise one very important question, which i don't think has been discussed.

does the body have to be intact to raise a shade, or can the shade be any body with a specific spirit. because if the body had to survive, that would in part explain why there are far fewer shades than there are magic users. for example, shades appear to be reanimated avatars, but why would they not reanimate warlocks as well. i would assume that this is because when a warlock dies, his body instantly vaporises.

so if this is the case, then provided that the theory is correct so far, all alric would have to do is burn himself at the stake.
