Interesting reading, for sure. I like to think that the cycle can't be broken by simply achieving what you're fated to achieve (the destruction of the Leveller). I'll look into it, but sadly it's one of those questions we'll never really have an answer to. Unless Bungie get bored and decide to acquire Take Two. :-p
