That was pure coincidence that I saw that.

THat's easy. As his name implies, he was the kind of guy who would trick people into thinking what he wanted them to.
The deceiver's army was wrecked after the battle of seven gates, so he left. Remember how soulblighter went to the Untamed lands to rebuild his army or whatever? That's what the D did. He didn't go to the untamed lands, but he went to his own little haven. It was probably in the trow lands. Anyway, he returned later to the Stair of Grief when his rebuilding was finished.
