I think a better example of this was when Sean Connery played Aurther in Camelot and First Knight which weren't all that good movies but primarily when he briefly played Richard the Lionheart at the end of Prince of Thieves which was a great movie. Remember, according to Shakespeare you are not truely a man until you have a beard.
