: It just seems to me that Myrks arent exactly animal life:
: why do myrk giants disappear into a shadow when they
: die? & Unless they sit around stuffing skulls full
: of gunpowder (unlikely considering the dwarven
: monopoly on this technology), the skull-throwing must
: be something supernatural. Meaning that perhaps they
: are not bound to the conciousness/instict dichotomy.
Oh, I'm definitely in support of the notion that Myrkridia are magical, but only to the same extent as humans and dwarves and so on Why do Warlocks throw fireballs and dissolve into sparkles when they die? Who knows, "it's magic", but they're certainly still human.
: As for their being carnivorous or not, it seems
: unlikely that myth's ecology could sustain such a
: large influx of predators without their population
: leveling off.
Good point about populations levelling out, which could be used in some explanation of why the Myrkridia aren't omnipresent everywhere utterly extinctifying humanity. However, if we are considering that the Myrkridia, at least some of them, are intelligent enough that they held a civilization of their own back then, then you can ask, "Why aren't cows and chickens extinct with all these humans running around eating them?" And the answer is that we intentionally let cows and chickens live just long enough to breed and THEN we kill and eat them; and while some are breeding and raising their young we're killing others that have just finished that, so the net result is we've got a continuous supply of meat while never wiping out their species entirely. Myrkridia could do the same thing to people.
: Other questions these points raise is
: who exactly makes myrk loinclothes
The Myrkridia do. We know they made battle-standards, so why not simple clothes? Maybe they're made of human flesh.
: are there
: myrk females? I would say all evidence definately
: points to their either needing human females to
: produce, being asexual, or being purely supernatural
: creations.
When you see a pack of wolves running around, do you ask where their females are or how these things manage to breed without them? Cause the females are right there hunting alongside the males. Humans are strange amongst animals in that we have traditionally left our females behind in the home and only sent the males out. Most creatures' young have to be up and ready to run with the pack/herd quickly, and the females are right there moving along with them. There is no "home" to sit around at.
: Oh and I disagree with even applying the word
: "mage" to myth.
Why?
