: I'm not too keen on Myrks being chemically or physically
: dependent on fear, but I *love* the idea of them being
: sadistic freaks as well as just natural hunters. It
: would go well with them being more intelligent and
: less animal - they have emotions and psychosis as well
: as people do, and given the nature of their society
: and its origins it makes sense that they would be
: psycho whack jobs who delight in torture and
: inflicting terror on their subjects. It would be the
: Myrkridia version of entertainment - see how loud you
: can make them scream, see how much of their body you
: can remove before they die, etc.
It is entirely too fitting for the Myrkridia, who are "nightmares made flesh", to be pyschotic.
It also (apparently/possibly) means that they only hunt humans (presumably the fir'bolg and dwarves would be hunted as well if that was an option) because humans, being intelligent...are so much better at feeling pain. It isn't because humans make better prey (food wise) than deer, its that we suffer so...exquisitely.
Of course, this immediately brings up the flip side of things - what if you had a Krid who wasn't psycho?
: He's still be a ravenous carnivore, but being an
: intelligent creature could possibly curb those
: instincts if raised properly. I actually GM'd a GURPS
: Myth game once where a player was a 'domesticated'
: Myrkridian pack-mage (not a giant, just a smaller one
: ala M3), and got along perfectly fine in polite
: company, wore a wizard's cloak and jewelry and carried
: a staff (basically a Myrkridian Warlock), went hunting
: for non-human prey and ate it in a civilized way...
: and yet still played upon the fact that everyone was
: terrified of him, saying 'boo' to people who were all
: nervous of him just standing there, and then laughing
: it up when they went into a panic.
I'm not sure there -is- such a thing as a sane 'krid. I imagine that Myrkridian tendancies towards sadism are stronger, as a rule, than say, human tendancies towards altruism (which we like to believe in and rarely live up to as much as we'd like).
