: I dont think there is as far as we know besides him being
: an incredibly powerful warrior. Though I wonder why it
: is that he was able to change the war, it seems that
: he must have had superior battle tactics and the
: ability to inspire men...

Right, and this is why I put so much emphasis on the scene that the Bruig come across as they come into Gower. The absolute fearlessness of those people, setting fires around their own villages, sacrificing one man to save ten women and children, Connacht standing at point, toe to toe against the Myrkridia! Just having the gall to stand against them is a big step against the Myrkridia. The Krids under Moagim terrified humanity into believing that we had no hope of fighting the, but now after a thousand years they are complacent and soft, as much as a ravenous wolf-man can be... and so if any of their prey dared to stand against them, they could be caught off guard.

Imagine if deer suddenly decided to to ambush and counterattack hunters that went into the woods after them, and then once we were scared to go into the woods, they decided to invade our cities? I mean they're just deer, right? We hunt them for food. But still... a horde of deer charging antlers first through the streets, impaling women and children... is still scary, no?

: Even as Balor he doesnt seem to have massive magical
: powers. He's certainly no mage. He's almost
: invulnerable sure, and hes got that lightning thing (I
: always attributed it to his sword) but the main magic
: thing was supposedly that he bound the fallen lords to
: him and they derived their power from him and that
: wasn't even true. So I woudlnt say he would be such a
: magician.

Yeah, I agree. Lighting comes from the sword, invulnerability comes from the armor, razing of Muirthemne comes from the Sunhammer, imprisoning the Myrkridia comes from the Tain, the binding of the Fallen to himself was probably false... any magical powers he did have (summoning the Fetch?) probably came by virtue of his being the Leveller. And on that note... what exactly does "being the Leveller" get you? Phenomenal cosmic powers, or just a reputation for being a badass?
