You know, this raises another interesting idea in my head... what if the story wasn't all told in one sitting from the most-M2 days, but rather, told by one Journeyman / Heron Guard over a period of many years, during the wars against Balor and Soulblighter - perhaps narrated TO the original Journal authors. Hell, maybe our narrator is Seven Crocodile Skull himself, "ancient even by Heron standards". Perhaps, for a bit or circularity, Nine Skull's stories could often reference another, even more ancient Heron who befriended him when he was young, and recruited him into the Guard.
If we told the story this way, we'd have the advantage of getting both the "modern" TFL/M2 story retold, plus the ancient history of Connacht, and some of the prophecy of "this is all gonna happen again". Of course, unless we tell it from the post-M2 period we can't have the references to the M3 story as told from the shrine to Connacht, nor the ref to "there's still two Fallen Lords left..."
