: ...A martial arts master? With an axe?
Yeah, hand axes were used to great effect by warriors across history. First that come to mind are the Native Americans, but I'm sure others have used them as well.
: Yeah. Two hand-axes...
: Honestly, I'd have to see it to react to that. I agree
: with the reason for concluding it, but "wielding
: two axes at once" is somewhat harder for me to
: mentally picture than two swords at once (I wouldn't
: say it can't be done, as I know little about the
: subject.).
It works. I practice with a wide variety of weapons regularly, and was trained in TaeKwonDo for eleven years. Two hand axes is virtually identical to two open hands, except they hurt a lot more when you get hit with them and they're a good deal slower to use, but nowhere near as slow as a sword of equivalent striking power (but the sword gives added range... there's a three-way trade-off between power, range, and speed... compare with a rapier that gives lots of speed and range but little power).
: But this is shaping up very nicely. Is there any basis
: for imagining Connacht as "twin axe fighter"
: (that is, is this inspired by something you read or
: saw somewhere)?
Yeah actually, but it's not exactly the same thing... I had this picture in my head of a scene from "Equilibrium", a dystopian future sci-fi movie, and there's a scene where the main character (who is t3h l33t) is surrounded (at close range) by military police in full polycarbonate body armor and armed with assault rifles, and the main character is just wearing dress clothes with a pair of pistols... but he doesn't want to use the pistols cause the bullets could be traced to him, so he holds them by the barrel and uses the butts of them like blunt hand-axes, beating the MPs with them until he breaks through the armor and cracks open their skulls, all the while dodging assault rifle fire (at close range no less). A little unrealistic there but it's got a similar visual style to the strike pattern that I imagine Connacht would use, except the axes would be sharp and each strike would leave a Krid corpse at his feet... and Krids don't have guns, either.
