: Speaking of legality why is it illegal for us to host the
: music for the game, while no one questions ripping
: every musical file from say Final Fantasy VII and
: putting it on their fan site. And they sell OGM Cds of
: those too...

: (Does this have something to do with bungie.org being the
: official unofficial fan site?)

: Or if I made a remix of the Seige of Madrigal and posted
: it on OCRemix is that breaking copywrite laws? (Hey
: don't laugh theres a marathon remix that got posted
: recently)

: Forrest, Zandervix? Important people with some sort of
: sway on what ends up on the website?

: General Pepper, questioning the bounds of morality

Legally speaking, people posting Final Fantasy soundtracks are violating copyright as much as posting Myth soundtracks are. The long and short of it is, nobody really (usually) cares enough to prosecute. Game companies are pretty lax about that stuff, and Bungie has been particularly lax about their legacy content (witness Aleph One, the blanket permission to distribute whole scenarios intact, and the recent Marathon Trilogy Release). The Marathon remixes that Craig posted to OCRemix would normally be just as illegal as anything else, except that Alex Seropian, who wrote the original Marathon soundtrack, has given the OK for them.

Although now that I think about it, Alex no longer works for Bungie, who are the legal owners of those copyrights, which segues nicely into the problem with Myth: Bungie doesn't own it. Take Two does and they are giant evil corporate bastards who don't care about little people like us who like older games. I mean, old games aren't making them money anymore, so why should they care?

The upshot of that is, they really don't care about their older crap or us, and so we come back to why people get away with releasing entire Final Fantasy soundtracks online: nobody with the legal authority to pursue charges cares enough to do so.

Unfortunately for you, who want to partake of this morally innocuous but legally dubious activity, our high lord Claude, who doth PWN all of B.org forever and ever amen, cares very much about being completely on the up-and-up, as anything that happens on B.org, he is legally responsible for. His internet nearly got cut off once because an ex-writer from Myth Nontoxic, of which this site is descended, wanted all 'his' content taken down and threw hissy fits when said we didn't have to because that was work for hire - hence the many missing pages of Legends and Lore here, and the major overhaul I did some years back. And bear in mind, Claude builds and hosts web services for a living, with the entirety of the B.org network as a little side project, so no internet is a very big deal to him.

So, I personally don't care what you do and I strongly doubt the people with legal authority to care do either, but you can't do it here. That's that.
