What evidence is there that other heroes defeated levellers with their own power? I think that all the talk about the cycle being broken is silly; i mean why are Soulblighter's actions more destabalizing than, say, the Watcher's in the previous light age considering that the Watcher discovered the power to raise dead? Seems like the naive hope of humans for a better future...
As for Alric "not being powerful enough," keep in mind that the previous heroe is also an incarnation and thus would certainly be more than a match, and there IS precedent in hindu mythology of conflict between heroes of diff ages (see rama of the axe w/ rama from ramayana).
