The vikings called the indians and the eskimos for skrælinger, and yes they fighted against them. but not with beserks. the kind of beserks that appear in myth, is more like a scotish beserk. The viking looked more like the normans that conqured england in 1066.
But the vikings couldn't defeat the skælinger. the vikings had the same problem as the english pilgrims in america, they couldn't find food, so they disapeared.
The same thing happened in Greenland where the vikings also fighted Skrælinger, but it was first in the year 1500 ( or something) the last vikings or nordboer as they were called disapered. it was mainly because of the plauge and because Norway stopped suplying them with food.
the thrall sound like the old danish, swedish and norwigian word for slave. we called the trælle or trelle one trell more trelle. So the name of the thrall propely comes from the viking culture.
