With regards to the "mysterious gods:" The Trow were made out of stone and clay by the god Nyx. Therefore, the Trow worship Nyx.
The Forest Giants are quoted as claiming "the Earth is our Faith." The earth is made out of what? Stone. The Forest Giants' shrines are made out of? Stone. Doesn't it seem odd that the Forest Giants should worship shrines made from stone instead of shrines made from wood, or perhaps a plant?
Both types of creature turn into what when dying? Stone.
Just reinforcing my point.
