In Response To: Things From TFL Strat Guide (Forrest)

: I finally finished reading it last night, and wrote down
: some of the interesting things I came across. Not much
: usefull story info in there, though there's some stuff
: about Dreams and Fetch magic.

I posted on this about a month ago, but no one responded. You caught some stuff I didn't though.

: (Page numbers correspond to pages in the PDF. Pages in
: the book are 11 numbers back; ie, PDFpage 12 is
: Bookpage 1).

: Page 15: The difficulty levels use the names from
: Marathon.

: Page 28: The Bow of Stoning was originally meant to
: appear on Silvermines (fitting, since you're
: recovering the Watcher's arm there, adn you later use
: it to stone him).

: Page 37: The Fetch is described as using the
: "Lightning Dream". So Fetch lightning is a
: dream, channeled into reality from their otherworldly
: gods.

: Page 39: Archer are of "above average speed".
: WTF!?

A lot of the unit stats on the chart in the back are messed up (I elaborated on this in my post) but this is correct. He may be considering Thrall to be average speed, but I can't imagine why.

: Page 40-42: There are two types of magic, natural
: abilities and dreams. Jmen's mandrake roots are
: natural abilities, as is Fetch lightning (despite the
: above, it seems). The only Dream described is the
: Dispersal Dream.

: Page 53: There's a picture of a Griffin!

: Page 66: You had to escape after killing the Mayor on
: "A Traitor's Grave"

: Page 104: Those Jman statues on Bagrada are "broken
: city gates". Was there once a city in Bagrada?

This could have been speculation on the author's part. Howver, Bagrada used to have a different objective. The original objective was "Lead your troops to the narrowest and most defensible part of the pass. Be sure not to leave any enemy forces behind you." (page 44)

: Page 110: Though it is called 'Challenging State'
: elsewhere, Ambush At Devil's Overlook has its proper
: name on this page at least.

I think the screenshots were made before the rest of the book.

: Page 119: Apparently, it used to be that if you turned
: around and ran at the beginning of "The Five
: Champions", you lost.

: Page 125: Despite the above (Page 28), the Bow of Stoning
: is described as being on Out of the Barrier, as it
: actually is. And, apparently, you started on the
: north-center of the map, instead of the far west.

The write-ups for the individual levels seem to have been revised as the game was. He missed all kinds of other stuff.

: Page 133: There's that Griffin again! Apparently he, and
: other figures, just appear randomly about the book as
: decorative art.

: Page 184: The Bow Of Furious Incandescance is just called
: the Bow Of Lightning.

Furious Incandescance sounds much cooler.

: Page 219: Balor's ranged attack is described as the
: "Lightning Dream". Maybe that's what
: confused the author WRT the Fetch on pages 37 and
: 40-42. I think, given the GURPS info, the Fetch's
: lightning is a Dream (though their ability to channel
: magic may be natural, like the Jmen), and Balor's is
: just a more powerfull version thereof.

: Page 220: Alric can use his Eblis Stone for a greater
: distance in the shots shown here than in the actual
: game.

Are you sure? I'll have to check this out.
