I think that nobody except Alric (and whatever source he got the information from) knew much about the Great Devoid, or that you could defeat the Leveler for good by throwing his head into the Great Devoid. I'm partial to the idea that the Head told him, since the Head wouldn't have told anyone else.
Of course, if the Head told him, there is a strong case for fallacy...
