In Response To: Re: The Nine (Valdis)

: 1. I believe MAZZARIN was once an Avatara of the Nine,
: but he was killed by the Watcher in some epic battle
: of the past.

Mazzarin was the founder of the order of the Avatara, so, yes.

: 2. I hope this community does not accept the majority of
: the Myth 3 story...

Depends on who you ask. Some believe that it's basically true except for the bit about Mjarin being the Leveller, others believe that all things with the title of Myth not made by Bungie should be burned at the stake. And all opionons in between. If there's one thing you can rely on us to do, it's to disagree. :D

: 3. BONESPLITTER, If memory serves, was another name for
: the FACELESS MAN. He was never seen in any of Myth's
: games. (MOD anybody...? :) )

The Faceless Man was one of the Fallen Lords mentioned in the prerelease and /may/ be the cowled Lieutenant of Connacht from Tales from TFL. Some think he's just another name for Soulblighter. Bonesplitter is mentioned in GURPS, was also known as Bheil the Lurker, and was a mistress of elemental magic. I have a personal suspicion that she may have some connection with either the Myrmidons, purely because the name "Bonesplitter" just screams 'Myrmidon!', or that she is one of the 'dark gods' of the Ghols, via the elemental connection.

: 4. so the list would be: CU ROI
: MURGEN
: MAELDUN
: ALRIC
: MAZZARIN
: RABICAN

: I would surmise that the other nine were so minor to be
: unworthy of mention in the game. Or maybe the
: designers left their names and purposes up to YOU?

According to GURPS, the other members of the Nine were all household names, but didn't catch the spotlight during the Great War. Getting brutally killed probably didn't help matters.

: I always thought that the SHADES were all once members of
: the Nine, but were either killed or turned by the
: deceiver or Balor to the forces of the Fallen.

Not necessarily. All Shades were Archmagi in life, but not all Archmagi were Avatara. The Nine were a circle of extremely powerful wizards, yes, but it doesn't follow that all extremely powerful wizards were members of the Nine. For example, some of the Masters of the Scholomance are probably a match for the Avatara in power, but would never be admitted into the circle on account of being (for want of a better word) evil. The same could probably be said of many Shades, whose flavour text suggests that many weren't exactly nice people in life.
