: the Fallen, as the Watcher knows that the Codex was in
: Covenant. This means he's been around. Obviously,

: Balor and a friend of Connacht, for obvious reasons.

: would valiant warriors of the light jump up to defend
: a talking head that was obviously fooling them? He
: knew a lot about the layout of the world, and he knew
: how to get to the Fallen and the Light.
This has certainly been a popular theory, yes. As to which god--well, you could follow GURPS and call The Head Segoth. Forrest has argued for The Head's being a maintainer of the Cycle, possibly Nyx. And I suggested once that The Head was a Thoth-like avatar of balance.

: was allied with the Deceiver. Why?
: 1. The Deceiver hated most of the other Fallen.
: 2. The Head could turn light warriors to fight for it,
: just like the Deceiver could.
: Perhaps the Head was an apprentice of Myrdred in a

This seems the most likely option to me. Most of The Head's actions either benefit The Deceiver (e.g., allowing him to capture Alric), harm the Light, or harm one of The Deceiver's rival Lords (particularly Shiver and The Watcher.) And as you say, The Head's heavy on secret knowledge and mind-control powers.
