It can vary with the mission objectives and the type of units you have. For example there is that coop Mazzarin's Demise 4 which takes at least over 100 minutes to finish it. That map is popular but it is only played a few times. The level Shiver has a few hero units with a moderate big map. Not everybody likes the hero type gameplay. Just don't make the map the size of the tutorial's map because then that will not work well with others. Scan through the original Myth 2 maps and estimate a good size for one. Going by the example is a great start.
: New tagsets?
Well new tagsets are never "needed" but they couldn't hurt if you have a few new ones. Again, it just depends on what you plan to do or what you plan them to be for. If you can't make decent ones then don't bother with that idea.
