Yeah, the only real significance of the millennium is
a) somewhere between 0 and 10 trillion computers explode, and
b) there's a really really big party.
And both of those happen at the beginning of 2000, so that's what's important.
And it's been a thousand years since *some* date, so it's still a millennium.
