Well, I'm Brazilian if that helps in something...
There were more armies scaterred around the world, we see that after balor died alric gathered them and attacked the remaining dark armies, and I belive it was in this period when the light struck the deceiver nearly killing him.
Well...maybe the dark did won, maybe alric died in balor's fortress (he was left alone with all myrks upon him), and some fallen lord took his form (hes slight different in M2), another clue is that we see his head at the ending cutscene...
