Actually, the journeyman didn't say that the dead lived on the other side of the world. He said that both the living and the dead were bound to the world, and that the world is spinning so that each side is alternately under the influence of Light and of Dark--and that the living flourish under the Light influence and the undead under the Dark influence.
He didn't say anything in particular about who lives on the other side of the world, except that (by the logic of his theory) it must alternate between Light and Dark rule too, with opposite timing to our side.
