Ahh, good one. I figure it this way: 1st gen covers the beta testers, people that came in during the demo, to the folks that came in several months after release.
As for the people behind the scenes, the makers and other associated folks, they're kinda like "zeroth generation". Sorta like the people that were living at the time of the Declaration of Independence... they weren't "first generation" Americans, but their kids were.
Of course that's just my understanding of the matter... could be wrong. Any etymology folks know how you'd classify that kind of group in the numbered "generation" system?
