Something like what Martel said here (above) would be mine...
There's a much, much greater feel that what you do actually matters, tactically and plot-wise.
And unlike some games (coughWarcraftcough), bothering to use your units wisely actually makes a difference more than once every blue moon on a friday the thirteeth in October. Anything that allows you to throw away and rebuild strongly discourages thinking about your actions.
