: If Ghasts are fresh enough to hold together on their own
: (and I doubt that they really are very fresh--they've
: decayed long enough to produce wight toxins, and bits
: of them come off when they hit you), unlike then why
: would they be less tough than Thrall? I'm aware of the
: manual sentence about Thrall "withstanding a
: great deal of damage before the foul sorceries which
: are holding their bodies upright fail,"
: but you can't conclude from that that the sorceries are
: what make them resistant to damage. All it says is,
: *something* makes them tough and when it's overcome,
: the magic animating them fails as well. I still think
: it's armor.

The Thrall don't really seem to be wearing that much armour. Sure those shoulder plates look impressive but I don't think they're wearing anything on their chests. IMO the key difference between ghasts and thrall is that thrall are built to hack at things, and to stay alive for as long as possible so they can keep hacking at things. Ghasts, on the other hand, are on their way to becoming wights, whose entire purpose is to blow apart with minimal effort and spray pus at things. Look at a wight, it looks like it's just barely holding itself together, gas and stuff is practically ready to make it burst. Indeed, three arrows or a good jagged knife wound will make it burst. If Ghasts are on their way to that state, and they're already filling up with pus, gas, etc. it only makes sense that their bodies are going to be less solid and therefore damage-resistant than the Thrall's, even if they're still holding together on their own. As an aside, are the Wights supposed to be magically held together? I can't recall...
