The thing is, though, that the Oghre weren't THAT impressive when the Trow conquered them--and far as we know, the Ghôls were pretty much the same nomadic scavengers we saw in TWA. So it's a little weird if the Trow thought man was a "simple beast" in the late Age of Reason but considered both the Ghôls and the Oghres worth dealing with.
I think by this time the Trow DID notice humans, but since they'd already done most of their conquering and were busy managing slaves and building temples, they didn't care about us much.
